Rock. Shovel. Sweat.

A couple of weeks ago, some good friends of ours dumped this in our driveway:

Most people probably wouldn't be happy with a pile of dirty rocks, but I was grinning from ear to ear. Since this has been the summer of fixing up our yard, free rock was just about the best thing I could have been given. Things they don't prep you for in adulthood: the price of outdoor shit. WHO KNEW ROCK WAS SO EXPENSIVE?! Hell, even wood chips are expensive. Who ever had the idea to sell wood chips and rename it to 'mulch' and charge $3+ a bag is a freakin genius. But, I digress.

This is the sight we were greeted with upon driving into our driveway or walking to our backyard.

Gorgeous, I know. Hold me back.

The gate to our backyard is down this path, but there were about 5 other stumps, a pile of garbage, and a ton of ivy blocking the way, so we hardly ever used this route.

So, one lovely afternoon, I ripped up all the ivy, got rid of all the trash, and had some other lovely friends come take those stumps of our away (to use for outdoor firewood). After the weeds were clear, I laid landscape fabric and moved my pile of rocks to the strip of dirt that was impossible to see before.

Ahhh...much better.

I even cleaned up the rest of our driveway, removing everything so it's nice and clean. It looks so much better when we arrive home. You have no idea how happy that makes me. Even though I've been a bad blogger, I have been working my ass off behind the scenes- this is proof! What have you been up to lately?

  1. It is amazing how much time gets sucked into little maintenance projects when you are a homeowner. The worst is when you have to plunk down a huge amount of money, say for a roof, and then nothing looks different. At least the appearance of your little walkway has been greatly improved. :) Also, I am glad I am not the only one that gets excited about free rocks. I wrote this post about what I did when given rocks.
