This past weekend, seriously low funds left me with a serious short list of estate sales to pick. So I chose carefully, deciding to shop at the Great Estate Sale (a company who does stellar estate sales that I frequent every time they have one). And I'm so glad I did, because I saw this:

Well, at the time there wasn't a 'sold' mark on the tag- that happened later on in the transaction. I was so excited. Free! Who cares what the hell it is, it was free and was about to be all mine. Now what I do at estate sales may not be the correct etiquette, but it guarantees no one else will pick my treasure. I rip off the price tag and carry it around with me the rest of the sale. Most will assume, no price tag- already sold. Or they will at least have to grab someone to ask the price instead of carrying the item off.

I'm sure you're wondering what my treasures look like:

Mmm...who doesn't love them some smellymustymoldyrippedstained fabric?

They are not in the best shape, I know. But it was the ACTUAL shape of the chairs that had me at the smell of must was so overwhelming hello. These chairs were kept in the basement that had no windows, no vents, nothing. Just a musty box where some old guy read National Geographic. And I love them.

Now for the plan. B and I have dreams of reupholstering this pair ourselves. But I'm a pessimist realist and I know that won't happen. I like perfection when it comes to upholstery and I know I can't achieve that. Any mistake I make would drive me crazy for years to come. But I promised B we could at least rip apart the chairs ourselves to have a better grasp on the task at hand.

Aren't those the cutest feet you've ever seen?

I can't wait til this project is finished. But that requires me to get started, which I haven't. Not even close. I'm surprised I managed to drag these chairs out of our garage to take pictures. Yeah, it's that kind of day. I have managed to sit on my ass and look for fabric. Not much luck, but I have an idea of what I want. I'm thinking something with navy and white that's organic in shape and large scale. Maybe an ikat print of some sort. But B hates Ikat, stating "it just looks blurry" every time I point something out. Who knows what we will decide on but I'll keep you posted! Now, who wants to come over a reupholster some chairs? Any takers?
