Estate Sale Finds

B went back to work full time last week. Which meant two things: we can pay our mortgage (good)! and I was on my own with estate sales this weekend (bad). I guess Mother's day isn't a big weekend for estate sales, because the ones this weekend sucked. I got lost in Olympia Fields, and missed out on a farmhouse table I should have bought for my mother. I did manage to find a couple things and ended up coming home with these:

Not much, I know. But I was very excited when I scored these frames for $5 total. I have big plans for my stairway. See, it's boring...very boring.  And it's the first thing you see when you walk into our home. So I have slowly been collecting old, ornate pictures frames. My plan is to spray paint them all the same color (yellow? white? more gray?) and hang them all over one wall of the stairway. I probably need about 30-40. I have 4. Gotta start somewhere and these babies aren't cheap. Of course, when I started this project, I had dreams of walking into an estate sale and finding a whole collection of these bad boys. And Barcelona chairs. And maybe a hidden hundred dollars. But for now I'll have to settle for two frames and a wooden elephant my daughter just HAD to have. That will also meet the wrath of spray paint. Things don't last long here before they are eventually painted- my dog is lucky I haven't tried to paint him yet.

  1. Porter, if she approaches you with a can of spray paint, start running and never look back. The woman can't help herself! Nice post ;-)

  2. Hi! I followed a link from Radical Possibility to your blog, and I love reading aout all your estate sale finds! Thanks for sharing! I, too, (along with the entire Pinterest world) am looking for these old ornate frames for a gallery wall. How much should I expect to pay for them? I see them for $25-$30 around these parts, and I was thinking that is WAY too much... but is this what I should expect? Thanks!

    1. Hi! Thanks for the love! I think $25 is WAY too much! I've never paid more than $6 or $7 for one, and some I've gotten for as low as $1 or $2. You just have to be willing to dig for them! I don't know where you are located, but in my post "Vintage Finds for Sale", I am selling a bunch of vintage frames for no more than $6 a piece. Hope that helps and hope you continue reading our blog!
